Flat Corgi Friday - Funnel Vision

Just behind the Flat Corgis, you'll see a screen. Each of the ships use the screen to broadcast movies throughout the day on what's called: Funnel Vision.

As much as I love Disney movies, corgis win every time!

Sigh

I witnessed two separate negative human-dog interactions this week and I really need something to take my mind off of them. I'm not going to go into it, but suffice it to say: there are better methods of correcting a dog's misbehavior. I'm going to leave it there.

I came home after walking my two and told Mike that I didn't want to live on this planet anymore. I told him that I wanted to go live someplace else that had a strong internet signal so I could at least a) work and b) stay connected to people without actually having to be surrounded by people.

I know, it makes no sense, but it was a knee-jerk reaction to behavior that I'd only ever seen on television.

I know how frustrating it is when your dog doesn't listen. When you thought you were making progress, but you've slipped. Trust me, I know. I know how the frustration builds because of it. I also know that this frustration stems from a miscommunication between human and dog and it's no more the dog's fault than it is the human's.

In these instances, it's best to stop and walk away - literally and figuratively. Try again later or another day.

To take my mind off of things, I'm posting the pictures that I adore, that make me laugh, and make me grateful.

What would we do without them?

5 things - August edition

It's August and it's almost over...

1. One of the bigger things going on is that Mike's having all 4 of his wisdom teeth extracted on Wednesday. He's a little apprehensive, but I'm sure he'll be fine. He's had plenty of surgeries over the years and I'm sure he'll do well with the anesthesia. I just hope he doesn't have any issues with his brittle bones and his jaw bone.

2. My running efforts hit a large bump in the road this month. At the beginning of the month, I was sidelined with an injury - shin splints and an extremely sore calf muscle. I took about 2 weeks off of running entirely and focused on massaging my legs and stretching every day. In lieu of runs, I rode the exercise bike, which helped to get *some* cardio in, at least.

Last week was the first week where I was able to get out. I had planned to be finished or nearly finished with the 9 week couch to 5k plan by this time, but I'm just starting the week 5 plan. I'm disappointed, but there's not much else to be done. I didn't want to push myself and cause more harm and in so doing put the 5 and 10 k runs in jeopardy.

I was out for a run this morning and today's plan kicked my ass, but I felt good afterwards. I was starting to fear I'd fall behind and with Autumn on its way, I wanted to be a little further in the distance. Once the snow starts to fall, we'll have to find an indoor track - with my luck I fall on the ice and then I'm really stuck!

I'm up to 3 intervals of running for 5 minutes. Provided I stay the course, the adjusted schedule to be doing a 5k is a month from today.

3. I'm losing weight again, slowly. I have to resist the urge to go try on items in my closet because I'm not yet at my goal and I'm not in the mood for disappointment. I'll get there in time, I just have to be patient.

4. On the farm behind our house, the farmer has planted corn. When I look outside, it's corn as far as the eye can see.

It can be a little scary at times, especially when you're in the backyard at night and all you can hear is the rustling of the corn and your imagination takes hold.

5. The corgis have been enjoying the Summer, though I haven't yet had them in the wading pool. I think I will rectify this over the long weekend.

Till next time!

Full of Quackery

Are those your dogs?

Nope, they are a couple of quacks!

Definition of a quack is here.

Throwback Thursday - Lit up Gimli

This week's throwback is when Gimli was about 3 months old. We were getting ready for Christmas and testing the lights, when I had the idea to take some artsy pictures with him.

Clearly, they did not go very well.

Hard to imagine this little fluff is now a large fluff!

Ohana

I missed the Flat Corgis segment for yesterday and because today is Saturday, I've decided to combine the two.

I hope you like it.

Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind — or forgotten...

Especially not those Flat Corgis.

Almost well

Merida has now had 2 full days of xpen rest and she's almost back to normal.

Wednesday night, she was not limping, but you could see that her leg was still a little stiff. This morning, she was pretty much the same, but we decided to leave her in the pen for another day.

I didn't want her to exert herself and then put us right back to square 1. This evening, she's almost back to normal. Depending on how she moves in the morning, we'll be back to proper walks and running around as usual.

Looking back, I have no idea what she did to cause this. She may have landed improperly, took a corner too fast, slipped on a wet spot on the floor or just slept with her leg crimped under her.

We are thankful it was nothing more than a pulled muscle.

Ever the lady.

Time for the xpen

Merida has been limping the last couple days. At first, I thought her leg had gone to sleep and she had pins and needles, but that doesn't seem to be it.

She's walking around fine and doesn't whine or cry or even get upset when we move her leg around. She even does the corgi sploot without issue, hence we suspect she's pulled a muscle or strained the muscle. Because she is incapable of sitting still, she keeps aggravating it.

I took her on two very short walks today, just so she could use the bathroom... Merida was not happy about this! Tonight she's been subdued, but tomorrow she'll be on x-pen rest all day, in the hopes it speeds her recovery.

I'll update again in a few days on her progress.

And now, we are 6

My little red bear is now 6 years old.

I don't know where the time has gone.  One day, he looked like this:

and now he looks like this:

He's slowed down slightly, he no longer has the puppy energy, but more of a refined gentleman energy. I cannot explain it, unless you've seen it. He is still a clown, still doesn't like to snuggle for more than a few minutes, and is still my main man. I think even more so that he's gotten older and we've built up that trust.

Gimli will follow me anywhere, without hesitation. Contrast that with Merida, who will follow, but is apprehensive.

Excuse me while I move these chopped onions from the room. *sniffle*

Today was Gimli's day and I think he knew it was his day. He was in a good mood all day - he listened, was cuddly, and asked to be snuggled.

After dinner, Gimli and Merida got some frosty paws from the batch I made on the weekend.

They did not last long!

Afterwards, Gimli opened his presents - an almost empty jar of peanut butter, a package of cookies, a rope toy, a large pig/sheep thing and a rope with tennis balls on it.

I think he did quite well for himself. (sorry it's so blurry)

We did have to take the toys away because Merida decided to rip open the pig/sheep and eat the strings from the other two toys.  hrmph, little sisters are such a pain aren't they?

Edit: I forgot to add in the picture of him wearing his birthday hat!

Saturday Smiler - Happy faces

Sorry for the blurry Merida. After this picture was taken, she promptly collapsed into a play bow and the game was on again!

Flat Corgi Friday - Grand Cayman

We didn't leave the boat while she was docked in Grand Cayman. This is as close as we got to the island. One of these days we'll go back to it for a longer stay.
